Many employers in the building industry are covered by federal awards and federal agreements.

Different awards may apply to employees:

Who work as a:

• electrician for a licensed electrical contractor
• plumber or gasfitter
• joiners, shopfitter, machinist, glazier, carpenters, bricklayer, plasterer (including solid and fibrous plasterer), floor specialist, tiler, licensed driver, leadlight worker, painter, sign writer, stonemason, sand blaster working in a workshop, factory or yard.
• roof slaters and tilers
• landscapers
• concreters
• concreters (in cemeteries only )
• boat builders and repairers and shipwrights
• cartographers, surveyors and survey hands

Who:

• manufacture of wooden staircases and balustrades in a workshop, factory or yard
• perform floor sanding and polishing work
• manufacture sliding aluminium windows and doors

Exceptions:

You may not be covered by an award if you:

• work as an architect or landscape architect
• work as a builder or construction manager
• work as an interior designer
• work as a building supervisor
• make fences (unless it is part of a building or on a station property)
• install insulation bats (unless it is part of the building construction)
• install roller doors or tilter doors
