Different awards may apply to employees in the security industry, who:
Work as a:
- security officer who protects either a person and/or premises and/or property for their employer
- bodyguard (also known as unarmed escort of personnel) who carries out the personal protection or escort services of another person for their employer.
- gatekeeper who makes sure that only authorised people or vehicles enter or leave particular premises of their employer.
- traffic controller on construction sites where their employer’s substantial function is not providing security services in additional to traffic control services.
- doorperson/security officer employed by an accommodation industry operator in South-East Queensland
- doorperson/security officer employed by an accommodation industry operator outside South-East Queensland
- door attendants and ticket takers at theatres, stadiums, circuses, skating rinks, sound lounges, discotheques, theatre restaurants, dance and other halls, cabarets, planetariums and clubs and hotels in connection with the entertainment of customers
- store security officer employed by a retail store to protect their property by detecting and preventing shoplifting, investigating offences, and carrying out other security or non-security tasks.
- watchperson for an employer operating a business within a sector of the forest resource industry
Exceptions:
- An unlicensed security officer who is engaged as a kennel hand and/or dog handler may not be covered by an award
- Some employers in the security industry may be covered by State certified agreements or a
federal awards .
- In particular many employers involved in contract cleaning are parties to the Building Service Contractors Association of Australia - Queensland Division, Security Operations (except Traffic Control) Certified Agreement 2005
