Extending non-exempt shop trading areas in Queensland

The non-exempt shop trading hours for South-East Queensland apply to an area defined in Part 5A of the Trading (Allowable Hours) Act 1990 (PDF, 450 kB). [s.31B(8)] and the Order - Trading Hours - Non-Exempt Shops Trading by Retail - State.

South-East Queensland - clause 1 of Schedule 1

South-East Queensland area means:

  1. the Sunshine Coast area; and
  2. the area east of the Bruce Highway between the existing Sunshine Coast area and the Brisbane statistical division; and
  3. the area occupied by non-exempt shops fronting onto the western side of the Bruce Highway between the existing Sunshine Coast area and the Brisbane statistical division; and
  4. the Brisbane statistical division; and
  5. the local government area for the Gold Coast City Council that is not included in the Brisbane statistical division; and
  6. the islands in the coastal waters of the State east of the areas mentioned in paragraphs (a) to (e) that are not included in the Brisbane statistical division.
  7. (effective 9 December 2006 the area of Beerwah) Commencing from the point where the Bruce Highway intersects with Bells Creek Road; from that point following a line due west until the line intersects with Old Gympie Road; from that point following a direct line to the point where the Bruce Highway intersects with Red Road; from that point in a northerly direction along the Bruce Highway to the point of commencement.
  8. (effective 11 May 2008) The town of Beaudesert being the area within the following boundaries: Commencing at the intersection of Waters Creek and the Mount Lindesay Highway; then along Waters Creek in a westerly direction until its junction with the Logan River; then along a line due south to its intersection with Thiedeke Road; then in a straight line to the junction of the Beaudesert-Nerang Road and Brooklands Street; and then in a straight line to the point of commencement.

Sunshine Coast Area - clause 7 of Schedule 1

Note: From 9 December 2006 the Order - Trading Hours - Non-Exempt Shops Trading by Retail - State expanded the definition for the Sunshine Coast area to include Nambour.

Commencing at the far north point of Noosa Heads then following the coast line west, to the Noosa River, following the river to its junction with Wooroi Creek, then following Wooroi Creek to its junction with McKinnon Drive, then following that road east to its junction with Butler Street, then following Butler Street south west (the road becoming Cooroy-Noosa Road) until its junction with Beckhams Road, following that road to its junction with the Eumundi Noosa Road, then following that road to its junction with Fellowship Drive, then in a straight line south to Nambour-Bli Bli Road, then following that road west (the road becoming Bli Bli Road, National Park Road, Netherton Street, Blackall Terrace and Mapleton Road) to the junction of Mapleton Road and Carter Road, then following Carter Road to its junction with Arundell Avenue, then following Arundell Avenue to its junction with Lamington Terrace, then following Lamington Terrace in a south-easterly direction until it becomes the Nambour Connection Road, then following the Nambour Connection Road in a southerly direction to its junction with the Bruce Highway, then following the Bruce Highway in a southerly direction to its junction with the Sunshine Motorway, then following the Sunshine Motorway east to its junction with Military Road, then in a straight line south to Bells Creek, then following that creek to the Pumicestone Channel; and the suburb of Maleny.

Brisbane Statistical Division

The Brisbane Statistical Division referred to above, means the Brisbane statistical division defined in the 2001 edition of the Australian Standard Geographical Classification (Cat. No. 1216.0) published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and includes the localities within the boundaries detailed below:
