Jury Service Entitlements in Awards - Effective 15 September 2005
On the 14 September 2005 a full bench of the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission released a decision and issued a General Ruling effective on and from 15 September 2005 providing entitlements to make up pay for permanent full time and part time employees summoned to attend for jury service.
  

 

The General Ruling declares that all awards be amended to include:

  • Employees (other than casuals) who are required to attend for jury service be paid the difference between their jury service pay and their ordinary pay.
  • Alternative arrangements that allow by agreement employers to be paid the employee's jury service payments in consideration for employees being paid their full ordinary pay.
  • Notification requirements for employees who are required to attend for jury service.
  • Employees report for duty on a day or part day they are not required for jury service.
  • A definition of ordinary pay.

Exemptions

The general ruling provides for a number of awards that are exempt from the General Ruling.  Refer to Schedule 1 of the General Ruling.
