Awards and agreements

An award is a legally binding order made by an industrial tribunal which prescribes the terms and conditions of employment. A certified agreement is a written collective employment agreement which sets out the wages and working arrangements for a particular group of employees.

View our resource page for further details of what is covered by an award or agreement under federal and Queensland industrial relations legislation and who and how it may apply to a young workers workplace situation.

Minimum employment conditions

When working on the job, young workers are entitled to the same conditions of employment as an adult, unless an industrial instrument Glossary term provides for specific entitlements for juniors.

View our resource guide on the common employment conditions found in most awards, such as wages, hours of work, meal breaks and rest pauses, overtime and penalty rates, allowances, leave entitlements and other common award provisions.

For more specific employment conditions visit our leave entitlements section or find the award applicable to your job or workplace situation.
